Proofreading Only
Proofreading is simply fixing mechanical errors. This is the easiest, quickest type of editing, so this service is priced accordingly. I charge only $1 per page. This is several dollars below average because I can do it so fast. For reference, a page is considered a single typed page in 12pt font – about 500 words.
I am a former English teacher and technical writer. You can trust me to catch even the most minor mistakes.
Basic Editing
Here is a short list of what you can expect from me if you submit a manuscript for basic editing. I will:
- Clarify sentences with changes to word order and word choice.
- Shorten passages by omitting redundant words.
- Carefully reorganize passages and paragraphs to create a more fluid reading experience.
- Proofread, fixing all mechanical errors.
- Ensure consistent tense and point of view throughout the manuscript.
My rates for basic editing services are variable. I ask that you submit a short description of your project and a small excerpt before I give you a quote. Estimates are free, and my rates are significantly lower than average.
Advanced Editing
This is by far my favorite type of editing because I get to be immersed in your manuscript. Here are some things you can expect with advanced editing:
- Dialogue fixes or additions to create authentic, believable speech and interesting interactions between characters.
- Major reorganizations to enhance the story and create suspense.
- Everything that comes with Proofreading and Basic Editing.
- Specific, easy-to-employ suggestions for improvement. I read your script, story, or synopsis carefully and give you honest, respectful feedback. Every suggestion has a clear purpose and can easily be applied.

Here is a list of writing services I am proud to offer:
- Stories, novels, RPG books, and comic scripts. I have done everything from Westerns to vampire stories to literary fiction.
- Synopses, taglines, and teasers. Consider the text on the dust jacket of a book, which provides an intriguing description that captivates potential readers. A synopsis or teaser is essential for publishing and selling your work.
- Web content and promotional writing. I have extensive experience with SEO (search engine optimization) and can create the kind of quality, well-organized content that maximizes site traffic.

Comic Script and Novel Writing
Do you have a great idea for a comic script or novel but no time to write it? Never fear – you can hire me to help.
I have a great deal of experience writing for hire, although much of what I do is under NDA. Windfall is an example of a comic I wrote for a client. I am currently working on a novella that will be published later this year.
Illustrations and Graphic Novels
In addition to writing, I also co-own Outland Entertainment, which handles art direction and creative services for a variety of clients. In many cases, writing jobs have been part of projects that include illustrations or sequential art.
Drafts and Revisions
I typically provide two revisions – a first draft and a final draft. After I submit the first draft, we will discuss the revisions I need to make. I will incorporate the changes you suggest into a final draft. In some cases, I will complete another draft if there are additional requests.
Rights
When you hire me to write a manuscript, I retain a byline and you are listed as the creator. The content and ideas in the manuscript are yours and yours alone. I retain no rights to the property, although I may ask that you allow me to share news about it after its publication.
I use a long form contract to set the terms of our agreement, including payment schedule, due dates, and ownership. We will negotiate the terms so that they are agreeable to all parties.
